On January the 1st in 2000, Alcan management decided unilaterally to give a "contribution holiday" to its active staff members. For the past 18 years Alcan has also given itself a "contribution holiday", drawing directly from the accumulated funds paid by its retired staff members.
In March 2000 a group of forty retired staff members took a look at the situation and met to discuss the matter. During this meeting a temporary committee was formed to provide a representative organization that would regroup all retired staff members concerned with the goal of defending their rights and interests.
In May 2000 a general meeting was called with approximately 150 peoples attending and nine (9) members were elected to form an executive Committee.
The executive Committee received a mandate to incorporate the new organization under the name of "Regroupement des Cadres Retraités d’Alcan (RCRA)" a non-profit organization financed by the contributions of its members and without any subsidy from Alcan. The organization received its Patent letters on August 27 of 2001.
Since that time, with a lot of work, the recruitment effort have come up with a list of some 2500 retirees and we are still working to increase that numbers.

TWO IMPORTANT OBJECTIVES
Full cost of life indexation for the APP members retirees for all their life as much as for the beneficiaries.
The full payment by Rio Tinto Alcan of the health insurance premium for the 65+ years old retirees.
PRIORITY ISSUES
Find a way to return to the retirees a back-time for the lost of incomes due to the only partial indexation for the years 2003 to 2006.
Put in place all the necessary tools in order to be able to reach all the retirees members of the Alcan Pension Plan.
Keep on making pressure on the company to increase the subvention on the health insurance premium.
Up-date our health insurance regime in order to increase the possibilities of pay-back fees .
Increase the membership in our association every year.
Maintain our determined allowance regime. Beware of Rio-Tinto's policy toward that issue.
Keep on being active in the FARQ (Quebec Federation of Retirees Associations) to defend our rights and interests.
Examine the results of investments of our APP, questioned the results.
Optimise our plan of communication.
Election of our candidates on the Alcan Pension Plan committee who are going to take actions so as to defend the rights and interests of the retirees.
Participate in the choise of the neutral participant on the APP comittee.

OUR MISSION
Protect our patrimony and defend our common rights and interests.
The strenght of our association rest in the deep valors that are: justice, equity, democracy, transparency, participation and mutual respect.
OUR ORIENTATIONS
First, a basic principle, let's not forget to always protect the rights and interests of every retirees member of the APP.
We must obtain the co-managing of our funds, as it is possible for the syndicated workers. It is not with one vote on a total of seven around the table that we can have an influence, we should have the parity, that is 5/5.
At this time, we would have a representative power and we could say that the managing is transparent and democratic.
In the future, after we have succeeded in some of the most important issues for our members, we will look at ways to be implicated in social economy.
